Cause

In order for us to help you feel better, we need to identify the type of headache you are experiencing. Understanding the underlying cause is key to determining the treatment that is best for you.

One of the most primary causes of headaches is poor posture, commonly presented in school students and sedentary workers such as office workers. Commonly in athletes, headaches arise from dehydration, overtraining and after a traumatic concussion.

Other common causes of headaches include:

  • Posture imbalances from work lifestyle, tablet and phone use causing tension type headaches
  • “Google” Headache from excess eye strain from viewing computer screen
  • Post Concussion
  • Stress
  • Whiplash injuries after a motor vehicle accident or sudden jerking of the neck
  • Sinus issues
  • Jaw pain from clenching or grinding teeth
  • Dehydration for instance after alcohol consumption.
  • Drugs and Medication

What To Expect Without Treatment

Depending on the cause of your headache, your headache may subside or may persist. If your headache is driven by dehydration or sinus issues, it is likely that water consumption and cleansing of sinus’ will reduce the amount of tension experienced.

However, if your persistent headache is due to poor posture or a whiplash injury, it is unlikely that it will resolve unless the nerves, joints and muscles are relieved of tension.

It is important that you tell your Chiropractor or Medical Doctor if you have recently experienced a concussion in any sporting or non-sporting related activity.
