Dry Needling

We offer trigger point dry needling at My Sports Chiropractor Kingsgrove. Dry Needling is a treatment technique, or tool, implemented by our chiropractors. Dry needling helps to lengthen any shortened muscles and reduce tension on nearby nerves. It requires the use of filament needles to release short muscles with the goal of reducing muscle pain, tightness, regaining full joint range.

At My Sports Chiropractor, we take a multimodal approach in our treatment methods. Dry needling does not replace the usual chiropractic procedures. We incorporate dry needles into the treatment of many musculoskeletal conditions as part of our integrated approach to treating shoulder injuries, sciatica, hip bursitis, elbow and wrist sprains, low back pain and providing relief from headaches and neck pain.

What to expect in a dry needling session?

Dry needling will only be included into your treatment plan after a thorough assessment has been completed by your chiropractor. An average session may typically involve anywhere from 1-5 needles, whereby a local “twitch” response is elicited. This twitch response is the sudden relaxation of the muscle.

Side effects

The most common side effect of dry needling is temporary post treatment soreness. In rare cases, bruising may occur.

What you need to do?

Prior to treatment please inform your clinician if you have any of the following:

  • Metal allergies
  • Bleeding tendencies/blood clotting issues
  • Implants
  • Axillary or inguinal node dissection
  • Joint replacements
  • Needle phobia
  • Pregnancy

How often will I need treatment?

Frequency of treatment varies depending on the extent of the issue, the severity of the problem, how quickly your body is able to heal itself and other contributing factors that may be causing your primary issue. If you wish to not have any dry needling please notify your therapist.
